Greetings fellow Turf writers,

The Breeders’ Cup is just days away and I realize many of you are extremely busy either preparing to make the trip to Louisville or already getting adjusted and settled in at Churchill Downs for the week ahead.

Just a few items of primary importance to discuss in this newsletter, mainly the National Turf Writers Association Awards Dinner on Wednesday, November 1 and the semi-annual meeting on Thursday, November 2.

Those of you who might have forgotten to mail in your RSVP or simply forgot still have a little time if you are interested in attending the dinner at The Olmsted on Wednesday evening. Please contact Jill Williams if you are still interested in attending.

The event promises to be entertaining and perhaps informative as well. The informative part leads me to my next point. Dr. Dean Richardson, who will receive the Joe Palmer Award along with the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center for meritorious service to racing, has agreed to an informal Q&A session with reporters attending the dinner sometime during the cocktail hour.
We’ve tentatively scheduled a time of 6:15 p.m. with Dr. Richardson and would not want to extend the session any longer than 15 minutes so he and others in his party can enjoy the evening. So if yo’uve got questions bring them and hopefully they can be answered at that time. We’re thankful to Dr. Richardson for agreeing to do this, and special thanks goes to NTWA member and The Blood-Horse Online Editor Ron Mitchell for helping set it all up.

Another reminder that our semi-annual meeting will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday morning in the auxiliary press center, the same place the meeting was held last May prior to the Kentucky Derby. There are several items to discuss at the meeting so please plan to attend. Board members are asked to arrive at 10:30 a.m. to handle a few items of business prior to the meeting.

Thanks for your attention and here’s wishing you an enjoyable week in Louisville for the Breeders’ Cup. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or complaints, 859-396-9407, or tlaw@thoroughbredtimes.com.
